Brief Description

The Defense Office for Indigenous Women (Demi) has thirteen regional offices and a central headquarters. These locations have incorporated multidisciplinary technical and professional human resources to serve indigenous women who are victims of violence against women. From 2020 to April 2024, the office provided care to 46,138 women victims of violence through its legal, social, and psychological care units. The budget allocated for specialized and multidisciplinary care for indigenous women has increased from Q 6.9 million in 2020 to Q 7.1 million in 2024 (Demi, 2024).

At the inter-institutional coordination level, the Public Prosecutor's Office (Ministerio Público - MP) signed an agreement with the Defense Office for Indigenous Women (Demi) to facilitate, promote, and establish a mechanism for the fulfillment and respect of the human rights of indigenous women within the framework of access to justice.

La Demi cuenta con 13 sedes regionales y la sede central, en las cuales se incorporó recurso humano técnico y profesional multidisciplinario para atender a mujeres indígenas víctimas de VCM. Del 2020 a abril 2024, atendió a 46,138 mujeres víctimas de violencia desde sus unidades de atención jurídica, social y psicológica. El presupuesto destinado para la atención especializada y multidisciplinaria de las mujeres indígenas ha incrementado al pasar de Q 6.9 millones en 2020 a Q 7.1 millones en 2024 (Demi, 2024).

A nivel de coordinación interinstitucional, el MP suscribió convenio con la Demi con el objetivo de facilitar, promover y establecer un mecanismo para el cumplimiento y respeto de los derechos humanos de las mujeres indígenas en el marco del acceso a la justicia.
